Mr Bettles, AXT's VP of Business Development since 2017, oversees North American commercial operations and global partnerships. With 30+ years in semiconductors, he began in R&D focusing on plasma processes at Plessey Research and Technology and Philips Semiconductors. Transitioning to commercial roles, he joined Trikon (later SPTS Technologies), then IQE. Relocating to the U.S. in 2001, he managed IQE's optoelectronics business. In 2006, he moved into the III-N space first for Crystal IS then SETi, where he developed new markets for AlN-based materials and ultraviolet LEDs. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Electronic Materials Engineering from Swansea University.
