Surface emitting laser and active devices have some key advantages in terms of size, scale-up, ease of packaging and cost. In this talk we explore the development of PCSEL / VCSEL / meta-structure devices. Here we will discuss some of the design, manufacture considerations for the devices. We will also discuss their readiness for emerging applications.
The Ipswich lab is renowned for its expertise in semiconductor high-performance lasers and optical components used in high-speed internet backbones. He was Design and Project Manager at Ipswich during Huawei's first internally developed high-speed photo-detector, Electro-absorption modulator laser and SOA component projects. These are key platforms used in the client-side, data-com and coherent transceiver business. He is currently working with III-V technology planning and looking at new technology introductions such as InP Nanophotonics, PCSELs, VCSEL-Surface normal modulators and III-V on Si platforms. Before working at Huawei, he has technical roles at Motorola, HP/Agilent/Avago Labs, IQE.
